The nuevo oriente region in eastern guatemala is known for its mineral-rich metamorphic soils and cool, rainy climate, which enable slow cherry maturation and high bean density. Coffee is cultivated at 1300–1700 m.A.S.L., mainly on small family farms that preserve traditional and sustainable practices. One of the key companies in the region is counisa, which has been active in coffee production, processing, and export since 1988 and has participated multiple times in the national cup of excellence jury.
