This decaffeinated coffee comes from Colombia and is produced by Hulcafe. The decaffeination process uses ethyl acetate (EA), a chemical compound typically derived from sugar cane. Since this organic compound naturally occurs in fruit, this method is often called "sugar cane decaf." Here's how it works: green coffee beans are first soaked in water to expand their cellular structure. Ethyl acetate is then added, which selectively bonds with caffeine molecules and removes them from the bean. The beans are then thoroughly rinsed with water and carefully dried. This gentle, natural process preserves the coffee's original flavor profile, resulting in a clean, sweet cup without the side notes sometimes found in other decaffeination methods.
