Santa Monica Farm is one of the highest in the micro-region of Ibiraci in Alta Mogiana, in the southeast of Minas Gerais, one of the leading coffee-growing regions in Brazil, which provides half of the country's production. The name `Mogiana` derives from the railway system that was laid in 1883 and provided an important transport link for coffee growers, which contributed to the growth of the industry in the region. The territory is characterized by a tropical climate with an average temperature of 25°C in summer and 18°C in winter. Coffee plantations are located at an altitude of 900 to 1400 meters. The region received the prestigious Denomination of Origin status. This certification guarantees that coffee labeled Alta Mogiana reflects exceptional quality and distinct flavor profile of the region, which is characterized by pronounced sweetness with notes of caramel and chocolate, complemented by shades of fruit and nuts. The Alta Mogiana Specialty Coffee (AMSC) organization guides and advises specialty coffee producers in the region on the quality of the beans and good agricultural practices , as well as on protecting the identity of the local product. Santa Monica Farm is part of the Eldorado Group, which includes 7 different coffee businesses and is a family business with a history of almost 100 years. The farm uses only organic fertilizers in the form of compost made from coffee waste. In 2001, the head of the family, Laers Faleiros, together with other local producers, founded the COCAPIL cooperative, which unites small and medium-sized specialty coffee producers whose plantations are located between the regions of Alta Mogiana and Sul de Minas.
