This coffee comes from the Chirripó micro-region, which is a part of Brunca region in the south of Costa Rica. The region is named after the local indigenous people, the Bruncas, who lived here before the arrival of the Spanish. Coffee cultivation here began by the end of the 19th century, with the first settlers from the coffee-growing areas of the Central Valley moving to Brunca. However, until the end of World War II, the region was not included in the national coffee economy. The valleys between the mountains, rich volcanic soils irrigated by the 3 rivers el Chirripó, el General and Grande de Térraba, provide ideal conditions for growing coffee. Coffee plantations are located from 600 to 1700 m.a.s.l. The climate is rather humid with 3500 mm precipitation, relative humidity of 85-100% and an average temperature +22˚С. The Chirripó micro-region is located between two mountains: Cerro de la Muerte (3,491m) and Cerro Chirripó (3,820m., the highest in Costa Rica). The valley between these mountains boasts some unique microclimate influencing a remarcable cup. So, the coffee growing is on its rise here now.
